Plays Around

After the run of Alice Through The Looking Glass, we have begun Playing Around again! Join the members of the troupe as we experiment with material, stretch our boundaries, and hone our skills!

This year, we are stretching ourselves in a new direction, starting with Plays Around.

This event used to be run by one person over a long period of time. The producer was responsible for finding material, wrangling actors, directing, doing public relations, and general administration. We've had a very few people run the show single-handedly over the years, and it’s a huge amount of work.

So, now, troupe members are signing up to be the producer for a number of Fridays over the year. Everyone is going to get lots of exposure to the production side of things. Over time, each will become expert in some area.

In the meantime, while we get this new concept running, there will be Fridays that have not been claimed. We hope that this will make your enjoyment of Plays Around all the greater for the wanting. :)

​Through The Looking Glass Machinima

Our very own Evie Fairchild is producing this year’s Really Big Project, a fully produced machinima of Through the Looking Glass. Currently, we are in pre-production, with shooting scripts about complete. Sets are being built, avatar designs are being worked on, the core creative team has their heads together.

This is going to be a great film, pushing the limits of what we can do in SL, filming in a private region, with minimal lag, professional sound mastering...

Release date to be announced.

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

After a hugely successful production of “Alice in WonderSLand”, the Avatar Repertory Theater (ART) continues their tradition of pushing the boundaries of creativity and what’s possible in virtual worlds.

ART brings Lewis Carroll’s characters to life in a new production of “Through the Looking Glass” based on the original Tenniel drawings, with lively animations, original costumes, and a fresh musical score based on familiar nursery rhymes.

The show opens exclusively in Second Life on the Cookie Sim on Saturday, November 12th 2011 at 3 pm.

Because they are recordings of live performances, and not fully produced machinima, the people recording were subject to crushing lag, rendering issues, issues with SL Voice, etc.

  • Virtual Short Play Buffet: (6/12/11) The winners have been announced!
  • Virtual Play Buffet: (5/13/11) All of the plays have been read, and the viewers have voted. All in all, it was a very successful run, with great attendance and participation by both the in-world audiences and the viewers on livestream. The archive is all there, so if you missed any, go and watch. The troupe will be getting together and choosing the list of plays that will receive full productions. Stay tuned, we'll be announcing in late May!
