History

Judith Adele (Ada Radius in virtual worlds) and Iain McCracken (Sodovan Torok in Second Life® ) founded Avatar Repertory Theater in 2008, with the aim of creating a small, tightly knit group of players with a broad range of technical, artistic and organizational skills.

A.R.T. is a gifted company of actors, writers, directors, digital artists and animators, programmers, musicians, sound engineers, publicists and production administrators. Live virtual world theater performance is our focus, speaking and moving our avatars live. We use avatars, costumes, sets, props, animations, prerecorded music and sound effects that are created by company members or readily available in virtual worlds.

Avatar Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) has the distinction of being the oldest and longest running live virtual world theater company. We perform in Second Life® and the hypergrid OpenSim grids, such as Kitely®, osgrid.org, and special event and convention grids.

Our debut production of “Tales from the Metaverse” was performed for Halloween 2008, and the company has continued to explore live voice/real-time virtual performance ever since through a variety of projects, small and large.
